“I’ve lived in Christchurch four and a half years, I’m originally from India. I have managed the dairy for 4 years. When I started it was very peaceful, lots of people, I liked the culture. but in the last few years everything has grown up, many people are jobless so they’ve been shoplifting. Two weeks ago a guy came in and punched me in the face, I was so scared, but now I’m ok, it’s back to normal. It’s not very safe now, but it’s not about me. It’s about young people committing crime, and it’s not good for the innocent people.
New Zealand is a far better country than others. Less crime and less corruption. So I talk about the negative things, but there are so many positive things, so I love New Zealand. I serve over a hundred people every day, they all are friendly. They smile at me, I give them a good smile back. It’s all about the people. It’s a good job, I’m here 30 hours a week. We are dependent on local people, they love it here and they know us personally, it’s like a family.”
