“Me and my family went overseas around the world like, not like every country but just like in a circle. My animal encounters was one of the main things I remember. We did it when I was seven, which was seven years ago.

So we went to the States, the famous places like the Grand Canyon, Statue of Liberty, all of those places. That was pretty cool. And then went to Canada, the wildlife, so cool like, bears, moose, beavers, fox, wolves. Then we flew to Europe, we went to Norway first. That was a bit boring. We went to Spain; I can’t really remember, Italy; But in France we saw the Eiffel Tower; now I remember that pretty vividly. That was one of the best places in Paris, but it feels natural. You have lights on the Eiffel Tower at night.

After Europe we flew to India. My dad works for people who help people in need. I think it’s called Joyya. We stayed in a kind of mouldy house. We found a bat in there, rats, and it was pretty gross. We visited people in the slums and helped them out a bit and hung out with them. And then the last place was Thailand, we splashed out and went to a really fancy hotel. And there is like monkeys on the power lines. That was the best part about Thailand.

It was really interesting to go from India which was like, really poor, compact and hot, to luxury in Thailand. I guess I’m grateful, like how lucky I am to live in New Zealand after seeing all those people, especially in India. It’s the best place in the world to live I reckon.

We came straight back to Christchurch and it’s quite weird I guess, coming back to Christchurch. Yeah. There was not really any big buildings at all.

I play rugby, cricket, touch. Volleyball. Corfball. Indoor cricket. Netball. That’s the main ones. Oh and basketball. My brother also is sporty and he was lucky enough to get a scholarship to Japan, to play rugby. It will be cool to visit him.

So in lockdown, I live just down the road from this park so I came here a bit to do some running around and kicks. So lockdown sport, we have these clubs, like push-up clubs. We record our push-ups and that’s one way to connect, especially in lockdown; we challenge each other.

There’s the physical; keeping fit just… I don’t know, it’s weird, but when I’m tired, it feels good to like go home, have a hot shower and sit on the couch. Just makes me relax.”
